Abstract The aim of this study is to review the various researches of the early Christian church buildings and to find the prototype of early Christian church before they had adopted basilica style as the model of general Christian church. The result of this study is as follows. Domus Ecclesiae is the representative church building type of early Christian church. This type of church building accommodated four purposes which are prayer, communication, worship and service through communion service, agape service, baptism and worship and they accomplish the essential function of church by forming the reasonable interior spaces. Since Domus Ecclesiae and basilica church have fundamental differences in their shapes and functions, a two-track line model that the original types of early Christian church are Domus Ecclesiae and basilica church can be suggested.
