Abstract Comfort ventilation is an effective method to exhaust the excessive heat in a building. In the respect of Korean climatic feature, maximizing comfort ventilation can be a good solution for the cooling energy consumption reduction. In this paper, the ventilation performance variation in a residential unit by changing operable window property was verified. Operable window size and indoor door open is considered in the paper and the ventilation performance in some cases were verified through Esp-r simulation. As a result for a cross ventilation case, it is turn that operable window size as 5% of floor area and 10% for living room are reasonable to encourage comfort ventilation. In the cases of non-cross ventilation(with internal door was closed), comfort ventilation was very hard to perform by natural ventilation through operable windows.
