Abstract The horizontal shear strength between the precast member and in situ concrete should be checked to guarantee composite action for the ultimate limit state. The shear strength of the interface is determined by evaluating the roughness of surface and shear reinforcement. But the horizontal shear capacity from the roughness of surface is specified differently when the codes of practice, such as ACI, PCI, Eurocode2, and BS8110 including domestic code are compared. According to domestic code, the horizontal shear design for precast slab with inverted ribs requires horizontal shear reinforcement necessarily even though there are enough indents to transfer the horizontal shear. So, a total of 8 specimens were tested to investigate the horizontal shear strength along interface of precast slab with inverted ribs. The push-out method of testing was used to determine the horizontal shear strength of interface with 6mm and 10mm indent. The results of test show that it is capable to transfer the horizontal shear without the horizontal shear reinforcement.
