Abstract This paper intends to study the characteristics of the contemporary urban collective housing of Henri Ciriani's Noisy-2 in terms of urban context. Since the seventies, the typology of contemporary urban collective housing tends to revive the traditional style of perimeter bloc housing in order to restore the urban space. On the other hand, Ciriani refuses to revive the traditional style, and he proposes the theory of piece urbaine(urban fragments) The theory intends to accept a merit of not only 1920's modern collective housing with standardization, repetition but also the traditional perimeter bloc housing with recognition of place, intimacy. As a result, the distinctive characteristics of Henri Ciriani's Noisy-2 can be summarized as fallows : acceptance of existing urban context, revitalization of street space for civilian's community, reintroduction of street, etc.
