Abstract The purpose of this study was to evaluate energy consumption and CO2 emission from production and transportation of materials in two types of Ondol. Raised floor Ondol with a ventilation system was installed in a sample unit for an apartment to examine environmental load in construction stage. Energy consumption and CO2 emission from material production were evaluated based on input-output analysis. Energy intensity for each material was calculated by Leontief reverse matrix in energy input-output model and energy intensity was changed into quantity of CO2 emission. The number of vehicles for transportation was evaluated by the quantity of used material for two types of Ondol system and energy consumption and CO2 emission was calculated from the number of vehicles. Energy consumption and CO2 emission from raised-floor Ondol with a ventilation system were 6.7% and 59.3% lower than those from conventional wet-type Ondol system respectively.
