Abstract |
As the technology of construction industry has improved and the quality requirements of owner and user has increased, the construction industry has concentrated efforts on improvement of product quality. In this sense, the agency in Europe, U.S. and Japan has recognized that the quality is the most important criterion and established performance-based construction environment. This paper suggests introduction of performance warranty contracting to improve product quality and technical competitiveness using in highway construction of Europe and U.S. Performance warranty, a type of performance-based contracts, is the contract that contractor assumes the responsibility for maintaining actual performance of product to meet threshold values of pavement distress indicator during warranty period. It is important that the contractor has the right to decide the selection of materials and mix design. In other words, the contractor has more responsibility for quality of product in lieu of freedom for design. It is expected that performance warranty would be possible to bring on integrity of product. This paper presents plan for establishing performance warranty suitable for domestic environment of construction industry. |
