Abstract The objective of the paper is to investigate the effect of blast furnace slag(BS) on setting time of the concrete subjected to various curing temperature and then, to predict setting time of the concrete incorporating BS considering equivalent age. As expected, the addition of BS resulted in a delay of setting time in proportional to their amounts. Low curing temperature and BS addition is critical factors to retard setting time. To predict setting time, equivalent age method, which considers hydration reaction of cement and water. Apparent activiation energy(Ea) is calculated around 15~19KJ/mol at initial set and 17~24 KJ/mol at final set according to BS contents. These values are somewhat lower than existing values by as much as 20~30%. Increase in BS contents resulted in an increase in Ea, which is partially in agreement with previous results. By doing this, prediction models for setting time are obtained in terms of BS contents and curing temperature at the stage of initial and final set. It is found that calculated setting time has good agreement with measured setting time.
