Abstract |
From the viewpoint of the history, the port cities have most sensitively responded to the requirements of the time on the cities and have adapted to the changes of the time by creating most innovative form of spatial structure. Beginning with 21st century, there are active debates on the re-use of the existing urban waterfront with the advent of Post-Industrial age causing large-scale change in spatial structure in Korean port cities. The functional changes of waterfront are, by necessity, accompanied with the paradigm shift in spatial planning. The Hard City, Hard Space and Hard Design of the Industrial age are substituted for the Soft City, Soft Space and Soft Design which lay stress on culture, history, diversity and sustainability. This research aims to suggest characteristics of soft waterfront for the redevelopment planning for the Post-Industrial urban waterfronts in world port cities. The soft waterfront for redevelopment in port city, involve the soft form, soft edge, soft function and soft image. According to this paper we could get the concept, relationship between port and city, characteristic and vision of Soft Waterfront. |
