Abstract The purpose of this study is to analyze the Pattern Language of the Gwangbok Commercial Street in Busan with the evaluation standard. Commercial Street has commonly changed by the growth and development for long time. But vitalized one functions as not only the shopping street for city people, but space of culture, rest and experience and breathe some life into the cities. This study is focused on applying and analyzing Commercial Street to the Gwangbok Street with the Pattern Language suggesting the guideline and evaluation standard. The results of this study are summarized as follows; First, Commercial Street needs the Pattern language to be connected intimately for satisfying desires of various people by considering social, cultural and environmental factors of space. Second, the Pattern language is able to be used flexibly in any places. Based on 35 basic patterns, 80 higher patterns and 91 lower patterns of Commercial Street, it is feasible to design new one and to evaluate whether or not existing streets perform commercially. Lastly, adding new Pattern Languages is possible. It has generated in Gwangbok Commercial Street as Residents-participation, using the water space and color.
