This paper investigates the characteristics of Urban Planning and design guidelines of the City and the County of Denver, which is evaluated as one of the most brilliant and innovative retrofits of North America's major metropolis. With the reflections on placeless suburbia, declines of downtown and consumption of lands, resulted from restrict zoning and auto-mobile oriented planning, there spreads out the needs for new metro visions since 1990's in USA. This research examines 'Denver Comprehensive Plan 2000', the 20 year long -term plans envisioning the city's goals, and broad ranges of urban plans including Small Area Plans, General Development Plans, Neighborhood Plans and Guidelines, focusing on the structuring between various plans and regulations, and analysis of strategies, goals and regulated items and the plans and guidelines. The findings are summarized as follows : the reuse of the suburbs allowing certain mixed-use land within neighborhood, the guidance of high-dense and mixed use downtown within walkable distances, and the controls of streetscape for pedestrian-friendly environment. |
