Abstract |
Palsang Dokseong Nahan-jeon is one of the Buddhist sanctum in Beomeo-sa, which is known for the outstanding facade and the unique floor plan. The purpose of this paper is to identify the history of construction and the modification of this sanctum after the construction work in 1905 by reviewing documentary literatures, Sangryang-moon and Sekino Tadashi's drawing. The results are as follows. The unique floor plan of Palsang Dokseong Nahan-jeon that has three sancta in a building was designed in the process of the repair work in 1905. Before the repair work in 1905, two sancta named Palsang-jeon and Nahan-jeon were separately established side by side. In 1905, Dokseong-jeon was built in the gap between Palsang-jeon and Nahan-jeon. As a result of it, the separate two sancta were connected into a sanctum, and it has been called Palsang Dokseong Nahan-jeon. In spite of these modifications, Palsang-jeon and Nahan-jeon have kept their scale, form and decoration since they were constructed at the first time after the Imjin war. |
