Abstract The design of central hall of Korean Buddhist Temples include the location change of Buddhist Altar and column arrangement to be able to generate more space in front of the altar. And also the design include the timber frame arrangement of wooden floor after the floor type of the central hall have changed from black brick to the wooden floor, 'Maru' for more comfortable use. The change of location of altar, from the center of the hall to the rear part of the plan, is structurally related to the timber frame arrangement system of wooden floor. Therefore, the understanding of the relationship between the location of altar and the timber frame arrangement system of wooden floor is very important in understanding the structural change of Buddhist architecture in general. This paper analyse the structural influence of different location of altar on the timber frame arrangement system of wooden floor. Examination of 119 central halls have provided enough evidences of inter-relationship between the location of Altar and the timber frame arrangement system of wooden floor. Wider and more comfortable interior space for man's use seems to be the most important motivation of change during the Chosun Dynasty.
