Abstract |
This study discusses the socio-economic implications of modern urban landscape described by Impressionist paintings appearing in France in the late 19th century. The Impressionist paintings elaborately described cultural landscape of Paris renewed by Baron Haussmann in the bourgeois point of view. At that time, Paris was coming up to a global cultural center based on its economic prosperity. Impressionists successfully painted works and leisure, both sides of modern urban life. In terms of technique, Impressionists positively adopted the principle of camera and the technique of en-plein air to effectively describe urban modernity. Impressionist paintings are a good guide for understanding the landscape of Paris and Parisian behaviors and thinking in the late 19th century. |
