Abstract The purpose of this study was to analyze the problems of the bond performance between re-bar and concrete when the yield strength increase up to 600 or 700 MPa, and to evaluate the suitability of present design code about development and splice to high strength reinforcement. Total 6 simple beam specimens which had lap splice in the center were tested for evaluating the bond properties of high strength reinforcement. Main test variables were compressive strength of concrete and yield strength of reinforcement, and test results analyzed in the viewpoint of maximum strength, bond stress, load-deflection relationship, strain of the reinforcement, crack progress and failure aspects. Test results indicated that properties of load-deflection relationship, crack and failure aspects were very similar regardless of yield strength of reinforcement, and maximum strength and bond stress of specimens using SD600 met the requirements of present design code. But, the checkup of bond performance reduced by concentration of bond stress to the loading side will be needed in the case of using SD700 grade high strength reinforcement and high strength concrete simultaneously.
