Abstract The purpose of this study is to propose the axial load capacity design formula for circular CFT column reinforced by FRP. To propose the equation, 11 specimens' results obtained from Xiao and Park's tests were used in this study. Steel tube and FRP confined concrete strengths were obtained from the Mander equation used in ACI committee 440. The confinement effectiveness coefficient for FRP confined circular CFT column are proposed and confined concrete strengths are also obtained by using the coefficient. Finally, from the obtained concrete strengths, the axial load capacity design formula for FRP reinforced circular CFT columns is proposed and the design equation results are in good agreement with the test results.
