Abstract This study identifies the effect of construction economic changes on the construction laborers' desires and job satisfaction. By analyzing the leading construction economic index and the coincident economic index which are the annual construction contract volume and the estimation of the number of employed person, respectively, the economic upturn and downturn points are identified as year 1991, 1999, and 2008. Two sets of survey questionnaires are administered to construction laborers groups involved in different trades and project management personnels who are engaged in 7 construction job sites in Seoul city and its vicinities. This study identified several findings which are strategic points for motivating effective construction workers using relevant statistical data such as employment index, the yearly construction contract volume, and so on. The research findings are effective to response to the change of workers' motivation.
