Abstract Social phenomena are getting more complex and diversified, so educational environment is changing, too, along with that. This has led to more various demands on the learning space of elementary schools and thereby frequent altered use for each of the rooms. In order to reflect all these demands, it will be necessary to establish a flexible learning space. However, this issue has been regarded as just a sort of phenomenon and concrete research on it has not been sufficiently conducted so far. Besides, advances research has only dealt with the actual status of it. Thereupon, this study focuses on the status of altered use to a general classroom which is one of the social phenomena found from an overcrowded school and conducts analysis on the current status or situation of the learning space plan. Based on that, this article categorizes the types of arrangement and analyzes user satisfaction or preference of arrangement plans or types so as to suggest the basic knowledge for a reasonable measure for flexible learning space plan that can be properly applied later for altered use.
