Abstract This study deals with regional characteristics of street space according to business characteristics to extract development plans of public street space in central business districts. The followings are the results of this study. Firstly, it was found that there are 10 kinds of businesses on the first floor and cloth/shoes/retail business account the largest number of shops among total 191 shops. Secondly, business intensity was analyzed based on nodes and business continuity. When analyzing it based on nodes, they were classified into 20 sections and there were continuous sections with identical intensity. Also, when analyzing it based on business continuity, it was classified into 14 sections and there were mixed sections with different intensity. Thirdly, when analyzing regional characteristics of Dong-sung street, it was found that they formed area and scope based on nodes and areas with different characteristics were repeatedly shown based on business continuity. Fourthly, when defining characteristics of street space from those results, it seems that many users visit Dong-sung street where is a central commercial street for purchasing goods. These results also mean that business continuity in commercial street supports purchasing behaviors of users. Especially, it is considered that by analyzing the relationship between walk for purchasing and indefinite walk in street space, characteristics of street space can be understood.
