Abstract The purpose of this study is development indicators for evaluating openness of apartment housing complexes. The indicators consider not visual and spatial openness but accessibility, thus it can be an objective and quantitative evaluation indicators. In addition, these are able to work as basic index for planning of open apartment complex. Indicators are composed totally 6 indexes. Firstly, P.O.I(Physical Openness Index) presents the analysis result among V.C.I(View Corridor Index), O.V.P.I(Open Visual Plane Index) and S.B.S.I(Surrounding Boundary Space Index). It indicates physical openness of apratment complexes. Secondly, P.A.I(Physical Access Index) indicates opportunities of accessing toward complexes. Lastly, C.O.I(Comprehensive Openness Index) is overall indicator that can evaluate the levels of openness of apartment complex. This dissertation has meaning as a suggestion of new point of view about openness and development of upgraded indicators that can evaluate overall openness of apartment complexes. Evaluating and controlling levels of openness can be a basic factor for not only open apartment complex but also open society.
