Abstract |
To escape from the poor living condition in rural areas, often elderly population migrate from rural areas to urban areas where their children reside. This study aims to analyze living circumstances of the elderly who had moved into apartment houses of urban areas from rural areas. As research methods, 64 elderly residents in apartment houses in the eastern areas of Jeollanamdo province were interviewed using a questionnaire. The questionnaire included questions concerning major living problems(care, housework and space usage) in apartment houses, solution of relocation causes and relationships with the previous residential areas. The analysis of questionnaires revealed the following results: When the elderly live with family, living in apartment houses presented new problems such as the absence of care-giver during the daytime and being unable to secure a private room for the elderly. Amongst the relocation causes, space usage problems were the most resolved. Overall, compared to the previous residential condition, living problems of each elderly person were greatly improved. Approximately 60% of the elderly who participated in this survey were visiting their prior residential areas more than once a year. And one half of the all participants hoped to return to the previous residential areas. |
