Abstract |
The paper is to analyze the nature of architectural expression, finding out if the notion of death is relevant to inner world of the architect in the Aldo Rossi's architecture. It searches the architect's individual sensibility and experience which appear in his architecture, revealing human consciousness which hides on the other side of the rationality and universality and how to express it. By reasoning Rossi's personal experience and insight in his books, it categorizes the internal characteristics. By analyzing the nature of his works and drawings, it searches the architectural patterns representative of the idea of death. It researches Rossi's internal characteristics divided into 'Trauma', 'Identification of Death with Life'. Aldo Rossi's architectural expressions are characterized by 'Stand Still', 'Shadow', 'Foundational Geometrical Form', and 'Monumentality and the Sublime'. As a result, the pursuit of death and happiness which is a relative concept, works as the driving force of art and let us take an aesthetic experience transferring from the world of death to the world of happiness. |
