Abstract |
While demands for the extension remodeling of old apartments are on the rise, the accumulation and sharing of the needed techniques have not been fully addressed, and the general purpose design guidelines for apartment unit extension have not yet been established, although it has been the main interests to common residents. The objective of this study is to provide readily available design guidelines and standards for the extension remodeling of housing unit in Korean apartments, for the purpose of promoting the remodeling of old apartment buildings. The design guidelines and standards were developed as follows: the remodeling procedure for housing unit extension was developed, and the decisions that must be made in every step of the procedure were provided along with the relevant data and references needed for decision making. The design guidelines were developed from the representative unit types of Seoul’s old apartments which were drawn from the typological analysis, provided with the analytical data on the physical dimensions and extension examples of them, current regulations, economic and technical evaluations, and resident survey data produced throughout the last four years. |
