Abstract Rafter installation is closely related to the Dori (purlin) locations. Also the changes to the Dori locations is the result of the wooden furniture methodology and the changes to the rafter installation method can be seen as a result of the advancement of wooden construction. However, it is also due to the trend of simplifying the installation along with the social background such as the distribution of steel and the decrease in labors during the later Joseon Period. Thus, the changes to the rafter installation during the later Joseon Period may be viewed as an efficient change to enhance the structural integrity and to reduce the labor rather than as a distorted change.
