Abstract This study is a part of successive analyses of diverse districts of Seoul to understand the types of architectural space composition according to the characters of urban structure. Based on the Muratorian school’s typo-morphological method, the study carried out the process of the transition of urban structure and the development of Myung_Dong district by reference review including old maps, the analysis of present conditions of the site by field survey. The study inspect closely how to respond the building to urban structure by 3-D analytic method by means of diverse photos and sections etc. The conclusions of the study summarized as follows. Myung_Dong has the actual system of roads & composition of lots through the complicated process of transition. The buildings who are generally located along to the alley at close, constitute inner road systems and they are activated following Junang_Gil on the list were western part of Myungdong_Gil and Chungmur1Ga_Gil. In these alleys, many buildings of ‘Single Purpose Building’ type, located and they were constituted through the changes of facade to respond to the diverse demands in the development process of the roads, for a long time. And these type of buildings has the character of the 'vertical expansion of space' that is related to the composition of lots in Myung_Dong. These types of architectural space composition according to the characters of urban structure of Myung_Dong district make their identies to the alleys who have the atmosphere more asian activated & thriving.
