Abstract As design-engineering competitiveness reinforcement is becoming a focus of a construction industry, efficiency improvement of total design process is required. Thus a analysis of waste factors is done to evaluate and improve design work process as a basic study for better competitiveness of design-engineering. Evaluation of waste occurrence is through a survey of internal major architectural firms and the Muda methodology is applied as a system of waste classification in design work process. The analysis of waste in this study is summarized as (1) Waste occurrence begins at high levels at an early stage of design and later falls, when process proceeds. (2) Waste occurrence due to unnecessary motion, over production and waiting are the highest factors among Muda classification system.
