Abstract Construction equipments in the construction industry are very expensive and they need much of fixed costs for maintenance. Thus, rental business of construction equipments has been continuously developed to minimize risks occurred by economic fluctuations, however, The current estimating system of equipment ownership cost of used in public sector in korea was established in the early 60's when general builders possessed and managed equipments by themselves, which can not reflect appropriately the current management state of construction business. Market rental rates of two construction equipments, dump truck(15ton) and wheel-excavator(1.0m3), were collected from leasing service companies and construction projects all over Korea by means of interviews in order to examine the possibility of introducing of the rental unit cost of equipments into the current Construction Standard Estimating system. As a result, it was found that rental rates of dump truck and excavator are respectively around 70% and 75% lower than the present standard estimating system.
