Title Difference on the Life Satisfaction between Elderly who Live with Their Children and Those who Live Only or Their Spouses

Abstract The objective of this study is to apprehend the difference of emotional support, instrumental support, and life satisfaction between the two groups - the elderly who live with their children and those who live only or their spouses. The research method is the questionnaire surveys from those aged 65 and older who live in Daejeon city. The collected data were analyzed by categorizing them into two groups, 74 residing in the elderly who live with their children and 68 in those who live only or their spouses. The result of analysis is as follows; 1) emotional support between the two groups, the elderly who live with their children and those who live only or their spouses, did not show a statistically significant difference; 2) instrumental support between the two groups showed statistically significant difference(t=3.44, p<.01). The result means that the instrumental support of the elderly live with their children was higher than that of the elderly who live only or their spouses; 3) life satisfaction between the two groups did not show a statistically significant difference. The result means quality of living is similar among two different types, the elderly who live with their children and those who live only or their spouses, of residence.
