Abstract The purpose of this study is its plan and layout characteristics through the analysis of exterior space and interior space at Beonnamdaek(Beonnam house). This house is at Uichon-ri, Dosan-myeon Andong-si Gyeongsangbuk-do. It was constructed during the reign of King Gojong(1863-1907) when Regent Daewongun was still in power. It was originally a very large house of 99 square kan(間). However, only about 50 kan remains today, the rest having been destroyed during the Korean War (1950~53). It is composed of an-chae(main building, inner quarters), sarang-chae, heangrang-chae, berdang-chae, etc. An-chae is of a layout with a square courtyard at the center. There is sarang-chae to its left and right for the men of the family and a servant quarters(heangrang-chae) between the two buildings. It is noted for its unusual size and unusual features.
