Abstract |
The purpose of this research is not only to investigate the relationship between the transit ridership and urban characteristics of the transit center, but also to provide a fundamental information on subway-supportive urban polices in Seoul Metropolitan area. The results of the analysis indicate that the increase of commercial use density, mixed land use and the adjacency to parks around the subway transit centers are important factors for promoting subway ridership in Seoul. In case of Gyeonggi-do, the increase of floor area ratio and the proportion of senior citizen population are significantly related to the subway transit ridership. It is recommendable to increase the commercial density, land use mixing and creation of public spaces in Seoul, while it is more effective to increase the density of residential density, particularly low-income housings, around subway transit centers for Gyeonggi-do. |
