| Abstract |
Santiago Calatrava is an architect who provides very unique formativeness and symbolism using structures for architecture design. So, in this study, the design methods using structures of Calatrava be found by studying about the composed details of structures in his buildings. At the result, the Calatrava's design patterns using structures could be classified into three types ; Type1 has intended the space formative effects by using variations of profile at some parts(center or end) based on triangulated latticework. Type2 is the formation of big arch for symbolism and spatial architectures. Type3 is the simple flexure system with tapered section, which be used the space formative effects too. Calatrava's works were composed with mainly compression and flexure structure systems, so they have an intention to make so massive and symbolic forms. And the design characters was found that each the design method have a feature related to natural forms and a densely arranging method leads more dynamic formative effect. |
