Abstract The purposes of this study are to find the characteristics of vertical usage composition according to development unit and to suggest directions of the vertical usage composition of super high-rise buildings in Korea. For the purposes, this research executed analysis of 13 super high-rise buildings over 300m in height through references and field survey. The results are as follows : First, the building site areas have variations approximately from 6,000㎡ to 30,000㎡ in vertical mega-structure building type and also have no limits in horizontal-block type. The total building area increases when the building site areas are within 30,000㎡, but no relations over 30,000㎡ ranges. Second, the numbers of story in vertical mega-structure building type show good relations with the building site area increase, but the numbers of story in horizontal-block type depend on the technical ability in super high-rise buildings. Third, the usage composition depends on the city characteristics which the building is located, for example the building in Hong Kong mainly used for business, in Shanghi for business and hotel, and in chicago for residential and accommodational uses are mixed in building.
