Abstract It is known empirically that the urban spatial structure and traffic volume are correlated. Of the urban spatial structures, human traffic flow, in particular, greatly affects the traffic volume. Whether traffic is heavy or light is dependent on the way in which human traffic flow is formed. Most of previous researches have estimated the traffic frequency by using the integration of space syntax. This research pointed out several limitations with using the concept of integration for estimation of traffic frequency, and proposed a new concept of visit frequency to overcome the limitations. A correlation analysis using actual traffic volume has shown that the visit frequency is more effective than integration in estimating actual traffic volume.
