Abstract |
This research is intended to improve the environmental quality of urban elementary school without playground exploring the environmental issues such as daylight, ventilation and noise through the digital simulation. Following issues are found to be resolved to improve the design for those schools. Daylighting quality affected by surrounding buildings or topographical features can be improved by careful site plan considering the height of surrounding buildings and topographical features. Severe noise from the randomly scattered play area which leads the window closed during the class blocking the possibility of natural ventilation can be solved by centralizing those areas buffered by various elements. Natural ventilation which is critical for those schools can be improved by strategic opening design in the core space such as stairs and toilets considering increased stay in indoor space and relatively tight layout. |
