Abstract The purpose of this study is to take a snap shot of the current depth of BIM usage at large architectural design firms in our country and find out if there is any obstacle or inefficiency they need to overcome. It has been a while since BIM was introduced and domestic firms started to adapt the new technology in order to team up with foreign advanced architectural firms and also make their design management process more efficient by keeping up with the latest technology available. BIM has been known to replace conventional 2D/3D drawing tools and provide lots of efficient functions which enable the industry to enhance whole process of design, construction, facility management, collaboration, green technology and beyond. However, it is hard to say that the adaptation of this new technology in our country has been going smoothly and effectively. Therefore, this study chose three large architectural firms in our country and conducted survey and interview to analyze the current situation regarding BIM adaptation. Our next study will be the similar analysis on foreign major architectural firms and comparison of the result with our situation.
