Abstract This study aims at figuring out the characteristics of walls in the gallery exhibition space, and analyzing its territoriality and visibility to apply to exhibition space planning and to understand its meaning. The museum has been developed and changed variety by a social change and extension of its concept and social role. It might say that the relationship of unit space seems to be analyzed on the basis of floor plan, and is particularly determined by the wall structure. The wall restricts and divides space and also connects to other space through the gate. Accordingly, one unit space can be explained as territoriality restricted by the wall, and visibility connected by the gate. Through the analysis of four art museums, it proved that the characteristic wall structure of the gallery played an important and direct role in forming the flat shape of exhibition space and the structure of visual perception.
