Abstract This study was conducted to analyze the formative expressive characteristics of urban environmental mouldings from Central-Streets, Daegu. For the purpose of this study, 147 environmental mouldings of building, street furniture and sculpture, which are located on Central-Streets, Daegu, were analyzed by paradigm. The results of this study are summarized as follows. The most of environmental mouldings are characteristics of the typical characteristic acceded to urban continuity and context. Next to geometrical characteristic that express pure geometric in facade is found out. In structure-materials oriented characteristic, a straight express of structure?materials through using metal and glass take great weight on. Organic characteristic is expressed mainly in environmental sculpture. Environmental-friendly characteristic is expressed in water and green space. Formative design characteristic is expressed mainly on mass and the middle story of facade. As a compositional element of formal foundation, plane element is applied mainly. As a compositional element of formal perception, in the order of from, texture, size, direction is applied. As a compositional element of formal construction, in the order of unity, repetition, emphasis, proportion is used. As a compositional element of formal manipulation, plane and symbolic technique are applied with more weight. Most development projects of urban environment attach importance to unify facade design and improve street-facilities. To improve quality of urban environment and to express regional characteristics, it is explored ways to emboss expressive characteristics through understanding design of existing buildings and facilities.
