Abstract The purpose of this study is to analyze the Space Exploration behavior of visitors to Museums. The results of this study are expected to suggest basic indexes for analyzing the spatial characteristics of the Exhibition Space of Museum, as well as to apply the characteristics of Space Exploration behavior to the design of exhibition spaces. This study was conducted on visitors at Gimhae National Museum and Busan Museum, and a tracking research was conducted by an observer into visitors. The wayfinding types of visitors were classified into four types - a zigzag type, a mixed type, a wall-following type and a running type. In particular, the zigzag type and the mixed type held a majority. In view of the fact that the two types held a majority and visitors’ wayfinding is based on their route, analyses were made of bifurcations and of the correlation between behavior and isovist area at the point where space-searching behavior occurs. The results showed a correlation amongst isovist area, Space Exploration behavior, the display stand for Island relics, the structural flow of exhibition spaces and the arrangement of exhibits, which implies that space-searching behavior is effective to analyze Space Exploration behavior.
