Abstract |
Campus has been developing along with the history of mankind in connection with the growth of cities. Particularly in reflection of the periodical characteristics and the unique features of the college, a master planning is drawing attention as colleges seek to grow in a global scale. The major factors of a campus such as Student Union and major lecture facilities, which are part of the central core and 'quad space,' are the original form of campus elements, and they are of significance in terms of formation and function. In addition, the axis of a campus that forms the general frame and reflects the urban environment plays the symbolic and functional role in the major zoning over the major and additional spots. It also plays an important role as the green element of the campus with regard to outdoor learning, small gathering, and resting of students, researchers and professors. Besides, the major elements seek the symbol of the inner and outer space of the campus as well as present the direction in it. The original form of such planning characteristics of campus elements could be found in foreign college campuses, the origin of such space, and many of domestic colleges as well are good examples from which geomorphological, geological, and environmental factors are applied. Reflected and applied are such factors in recent designing trends. In the master plan of the International campus of S university and in other plans of major design elements, the original form remains while environmental, geological and social characteristics have affected the changes and applications. |
