Abstract Various empirical equations for estimating the modulus of elasticity of concrete form the compressive strength have been suggested. In addition, many practical and universal equations for predicting elastic modulus of concrete have been also proposed considering coarse aggregates and types of mineral additions. Meanwhile, these equations are inapplicable to the whole data about recycled aggregate concrete, because mechanical properties of recycled aggregate concrete highly depend on both the type of recycled aggregates and the ratio in mix proportions of recycled aggregate concrete. In this study, more than 800 experimental data, obtained by many researchers between 1980 and 2010 in Japan, about the relationship between compressive strength and elastic modulus were analyzed statistically. The compressive strength of recycled aggregate concrete ranged from 20 MPa to 60 MPa. As a result, a prediction equation for recycled aggregate concrete is proposed, which taRes into consideration of recycled aggregate ratio and recycled aggregate types.
