Abstract This research is a foundation-level research for the development of the design standard according to the necessity of the application of New Renewable Energy buildings, and it is a research to find out the direction of architectural planning through analyzing cases of New Renewable Energy applied buildings. Therefore factors that need to be considered to apply solar and geothermal energy--the two most actively applied energies due to the national support policies--to buildings were researched, and with evaluation factors drawn from the considerations, comparisons of cases of applied buildings in Korea and Germany were done. As result, the cases in the country, due to lack of aggressive planning in aspects of shading and design compared to the cases in Germany, seem to need a more overall plan through the active consideration of various planning factors for the New Renewable Energy to be in good balance with the buildings in the future.
