Abstract Practically, housing buildings planned in Korea have had target of people who are in good physical health rather than the disabled. Because of this, it is difficult to cope actively with the offering high quality residential environment for the elderly and disabled. In order to live in their own houses continuing, it is necessary to alter the house where they have been lived. The residential alteration is the essential factor that guarantee living like a human being and enable independent living. Therefore, the purpose of this study is providing the basic data needed for residential alteration throughout the resident's research on the actual condition about satisfaction and the level of demand. Also the research is considered the type of disability and characteristic of the living behavior. In this study, the ways of further development which are demands according to types of disability and Behavior Characteristics, the frequency of remodeling and parts of environment improvement, the problems of remodeling have been investigated.
