Abstract Ranging from ancient to modern times, the marketplace was always the most important part of public life. The spatial value of the marketplace is that with the change of the city, citizens living space will be transformed into an increasingly civic culture space. Today, the bustling street markets from the beginning will not be like this. The purpose of this study is illuminate the market placement and spatial characteristics, of Chinese former capital. In this study, unified chinese capital from Han dynasty to Qing dynasty were analyzed the market placement and spatial characteristics by each period.
