Abstract This paper aims to analyze the characteristics of architectural coordination of France. From the mid-1970s, the European urban housing redevelopment projects which were largely based on the principle of the Charter of Athens began to be strongly criticised: the relation between urban space and architecture had been rapidly deteriorated. Architectural Coordination was introduced in early 1980s in France as a tool for ensuring the urban regularity and the architectural diversity. The evolution of architectural coordination from early 1980s to mid-1990s showed some changes ; architectural coordination became more individual and definite, it created the identity of quarters as well as the harmony with the surrounding environment, in other cases, however, it limited the architectural diversity. The possibilities and limits of architectural coordination of ZAC in Paris gives un some clues to define status and roles of MA in planning of housing complex in Korea.
