Abstract This study is to find ways to increase participation of residents in apartment management process, which is in line with the results of previous researches suggesting that active participation in management process has some connections with high sense of community. To find answers, the current status of community sence and community activities were identified, and the effects of variables affecting the sense of participation in management process were analyzed. The research was surveyed apartment residents between April and May in 2011 and the total of 123 questionaries was analyzed using SPSS 12.O statistical software. Results of the research can be summarized as follows, 1) As to the sense of community among apartment residents, 「social norm」 was ranked the highest followed by 「sense of belonging」 and 「participation」, whereas 「fellowship」 was ranked the lowest indicating that participants are reluctant about active interaction with other residents. 2) It can be concluded that awareness program about apartment management activities should be promoted as the research results identify the lack of knowledge in apartment management compared with high interest. 3) As to residents' willingness to participate in management activities, 「education promotion」 was ranked the highest followed by 「communication」 and 「interactive activities」 showing positive attitude towards participation in all of the activities. 4) Among variables that affect the willingness to participate in management activities, the sense of community was proved to be the most important followed by occupation of residents (i.e. professional and managerial position) and senior age group; the results suggest that measures to encourage active participation of these groups are needed.
