Abstract With the increasing demands of BIM design in Korean construction industry, it becomes an important issue to develop a proper standard of design fee for BIM. For now, many architects who are asked to design with BIM tools and produce BIM data with high quality are suffering from the lack of the new standard for the fee and necessary studies about it. The conventional standard without considering additional works for BIM design results relative fee declines and so, decrease of design quality. This study started with analyses of foreign guidelines and regulations for BIM design to learn their ways of dealing with the changing design fee. After comparing its results with current Korean situation, the study also conducted surveys to hear the opinions of Korean professionals. In the end of the paper, some troubles of conventional approaches are pointed out as a result of those researches, and considerable factors for the proper direction of a BIM design fee standard are suggested. It would work as an essential guideline for the further studies which try to establish more accurate and practical standards in the future.
