Abstract Maximum utilization of underground space is essential to secure insufficient space for both cultural activities and pedestrians, where the land is the most intensively used - Seoul, Korea. The subject area of this study, located in Seoul, is mainly designed for pedestrians, however research about the possible effects of space network between surface and underground on the pedestrians have been neglected. This study aims to suggest effective linkage of pedestrian network deducing space syntax analysis models according to the linking method of the pedestrian network both on the surface and underground spaces. We will analyze the change of pedestrian network and its effect on their spatial behavior. Construction of pedestrian network models with the connection types of on and under the ground can be forecasted by this study. The findings will also contribute to examine the most effective models to plan the pedestrian network between surface and underground.
