Abstract The purpose of this study is to investigate formation and development process of building height regulations of Beijing in China. Building height regulation as one of important factors can be made as the image of city, has relation with skyline of city, served as determining space form and scale of city according to the expansion of the urban, which requires a planned management of building's height. Beijing is one of co-existed city with preservation of old town and development of new town. The process of this paper is as below. First, this paper introduces history, humanities, geographic analysis and the characteristics of Beijing. Secondly, this study investigates formation and development process of Beijing master plan. Thirdly, base on the results above, analyzed how the conservation of traditional building in building height regulations of Beijing master plan. Lastly, this paper intends to suggestions for improvements in building height regulation in Beijing through analysis of building height regulation of Beijing master plan and building laws of Beijing.
