Abstract The foundation structure was described with the function on the distribution of bearing power according to the type of ground and on the relative stiffness of the footing slab. Consequently, bearing power, bending, and load transfer from the shear to the foundation shall be considered. Note, however, that the performance test of the foundation of an architectural structure is executed in the lab, not on the ground, as in the case of a flat-plate slab as a test that assesses the punching shear in the form of four-side support. Moreover, the design formula of the footing slab also uses the formula of the flat-plate slab. Therefore, a loading system on the ground was established to consider the effect of the bearing power on the footing slab; shear reinforcement to reduce the thickness of the footing slab was developed in this study. The shear reinforcement was fabricated such that the secondary moment of the section was maximized by bending the steel plate to "C" shape to minimize the amount of steel used. The reinforcing performance was reviewed using the width/thickness ratio of the reinforcement and the effective thickness of the footing slab as variables.
