Abstract In the recent years, various temporary buildings have been proposed as one way to respond various environmental changes base on the increase of natural disasters, the development of transportation, and the advent of information society. However, the study about the temporary building is still insufficient. The purpose of this study is to extend awareness of temporary buildings in the recent years of Japan and to understand its characteristics and trends through the study cases and analyzed the build method types. The results of this study are as follows; 1) In Japan, the recently temporary buildings tend to build various spaces and facilities in the shortest time and spend least cost based on a light-weight building materials. 2) The build methods of temporary building were classified as a prefabricated method, dry process method and manufacturing method according to the difference between professionalism and working place. These three methods types appeared to have characteristics such as be a modular and self-build be unitize and systematization and mobility. In the future, this progressive concept is expected to be performing in various studies and proposals under its validity and possibilities of appliances.
