Abstract This study has the purpose to space planning method in consideration of the correlation of finishing material and lighting. First, among various elements used to perceive space image, finishing material and lighting take up the most important role in forming image, so studies on space image in consideration of these relationship are judged required. Second, space type, art wall type and ceiling type that are used the most frequently were deduced with focus on ‘modern natural’ and ‘classic natural’ image selected as representative space image, and on this basis, finishing material and lighting scenario were planned out. Third, since art wall plays critical role in perceiving space image, change was given in the expression of space image art wall finishing material. Modern natural image was expressed by placing light brown color wood pattern wallpaper and grey color stone pattern wall material in parallel, and in classical natural image, virtual simulation space was established by applying violet color wallpaper across art wall. Fourth, that finishing material and lighting affects visual perception of space by generating interactions and serve as critical element in forming the overall image of space.
